Brian May Guitars launches a new electric guitar for 2021, an exclusive model made in collaboration with guitarist and singer-songwriter Arielle, the first not based on the Red Special and based on the artist’s “Two-Tone”.

New Arielle Signature Guitar from Brian May Guitars

The new guitar model from BM Guitars will be the brand’s first “no Red Special”; although it has a pickup configuration similar to Brian May’s legendary guitar.

The guitar is based on the custom guitar called “Two Tone” that artist Arielle made, inspired by the story of Brian May and his Red Special. However, it has certain modifications of the original such as the pegbox.

Arielle Guitar Specifications

Arielle guitar design is an offset similar to a Gibson Firebird mixed with a Fender inverted Jazzmaster as well. The guitar features a raised center stripe and a two-tone finish in red and blue. The build consists of a Korina / Limba body, with a 24 fret “modern radius” one-piece mahogany neck.

Arielle’s scale length is 24 inches – the same as found on the original Red Special, that’s three-quarters of an inch shorter than a standard Gibson scale length guitar.

Arielle Hardware

Hardware comes in the form of a chrome-finished Wilkinson two-point tremolo, plus Grover 406 Series Mini Locking Rotomatic tuners. The Wilkinson tremolo features six individual saddles, as well as a low-profile lip that eliminates the possibility of horizontal saddle movement.

The electronics consist of May’s Tri-Sonic single coil pickups, as well as the same phase switching system found on the Red Special. This system has six DPDT switches that allow each pickup to activate and also have its phase reversed independently. There’s also a master volume and tone control, and the latter uses a Sprague 0.033μF Orange Drop capacitor.
